The Journey — Through a Family Lens
We begin in Kathmandu on the eve of Holi, Nepal's festival of color.
For a child, Holi is one of the most unforgettable ways to arrive in a country. The city fills with music, laughter, pigment, and celebration — a full-body immersion into joy, impermanence, and collective aliveness. Children don't need translation for this. They understand color, they understand play, they understand what it feels like to be welcomed into something bigger than themselves.
That evening, we gather for a sound healing session and welcome dinner. This is not just adult ceremony — children are invited to attend as they are, to receive the sound and the meal, to settle their bodies after travel.
From there, we move toward the threshold.
In Patan, we walk through ancient temple squares — a slow, sensory education for children in stone, water, ritual, and centuries of care. We continue into the foothills to Neydo Monastery, where we spend the night within a living Buddhist monastery and retreat center. Families receive teachings and blessings from resident monks.
For a child, sleeping inside a working monastery is a formative encounter. The rhythm of practice, the presence of monks, the sound of the bell — these become part of a child's memory of what devotion looks like in real life, not just in books.
The next morning, after meditation practice, we drive north toward Langtang National Park. Our trek follows a quieter and more contemplative route through Sherpagaon, avoiding the busiest trekking corridor and allowing greater spaciousness along the way — space that families need.
We move gradually through Tamang villages, rhododendron forests, river valleys, and alpine landscapes toward Kyanjin Gompa — the spiritual heart of the valley.
The pace is designed for presence rather than performance. Children walk their own rhythm. Parents walk beside them. There is no summit push, no race, no forced pace. This is a family container.
Daily morning practice includes meditation, breathwork, movement, and yoga — held in a way that welcomes participation from children and adults alike. Evening gatherings offer reflection, teaching, and integration as the pilgrimage unfolds.
At altitude, we stay in thoughtfully selected eco-comfort lodges with attached western bathrooms, solar power, and heated beds where available, allowing the body — including a child's body — to rest deeply within a remote Himalayan environment.

What Children Learn Here
Worldschooling is not a curriculum you deliver to a child on the road. It is what happens when a child is genuinely inside a place — its people, weather, rhythms, food, language, ceremony, questions.
On this journey, your child encounters:
What celebration feels like in a culture where joy is public and shared
How monasteries are lived in — not visited, but inhabited
What it means to walk with strangers who become family
How the body responds to altitude, slow travel, and real weather
How silence is different at 3,870 meters than at home
What reverence looks like from adults who are not their own parents
This is education that cannot be replicated in any classroom.

Kyanjin Gompa
We spend two nights in Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 meters, surrounded by glaciers, prayer flags, and Himalayan peaks.
This is the heart of the pilgrimage.
For those who wish, there is an optional acclimatization hike to Lower Kyanjin Ri for panoramic mountain views. Others — including parents traveling with younger children — may choose to remain in the valley: resting, writing, walking quietly, visiting the monastery, or simply being still.
One evening, we gather for meditation practice within the Sound Room at Kyanjin Gompa monastery itself. Children who join do so as full participants. This is how children learn what practice is — by being inside it.
There are experiences that cannot be manufactured through workshops or explained through language. They emerge through attention, landscape, practice, and silence held over time. Children absorb these directly, often more readily than adults.
On the return to Kathmandu, we close the journey with an Ayurvedic wellness session — completing the arc that the welcome sound bath opened.

About Bronwyn
Bronwyn Ayla has spent three decades immersed in healing arts, contemplative practice, and spiritual study, with much of her personal formation shaped through time in the Himalayas and across Asia.
Her work bridges embodied practice, energetic medicine, somatic awareness, spiritual transformation, and lived integration. She first encountered Reiki within the Himalayan regions many years ago, and the landscapes, monasteries, and lineages of Nepal have continued to deeply influence both her life and teaching ever since.
Rather than approaching pilgrimage as tourism, Bronwyn creates spaces of intentional practice, reverence, and meaningful encounter — where landscape itself becomes part of the teaching.
This pilgrimage reflects a journey she has wanted to share for many years.
